How to Prepare Your Home Before Wallpaper Installers Arrive
Before installers arrive, make sure all the wallpaper has been delivered and the batch numbers match, clear the walls and small items, and decide where furniture will go. Keep the room at normal indoor temperature. The installer handles floor protection, outlet covers, wall prep and cleanup.
In short
- Check that every roll has arrived and batch numbers match.
- Leave rolls unopened in the room so they acclimate.
- Clear art, curtains and small items; ask whether furniture moving is included.
- Keep the AC running normally: steady temperature and humidity help paste cure.
One week before
- Confirm all rolls have arrived. Count them against your order.
- Check the batch or lot number on every roll. Mixed batches can differ in shade.
- Do not open or unroll the paper; leave that to the installer.
- Tell the installer about any known leaks, cracks or old wallpaper under paint.
The day before
- Take down art, mirrors, shelves and curtain rods.
- Remove small items and anything fragile from the room.
- Move furniture to the middle of the room, or confirm the crew will do it.
- Plan parking and a clear path to the room.
- Arrange for pets to stay in another room.
On install day
- Keep the HVAC running at your usual setting. Avoid big temperature swings while paste cures.
- Show the installer where you want the pattern centered, for example behind the bed or over the fireplace.
- Plan for the room to be out of use for the day.
What the installer takes care of
- Floor and furniture protection
- Removing outlet and switch plates
- Repairs, skim coat and primer
- Layout, hanging, trimming and cleanup
- Putting plates back and walking through the result with you
After installation
Avoid leaning furniture on the new paper for a day and keep the room ventilated while the paste dries. Small bubbles usually flatten as it cures; if any remain after a few days, call your installer.

FAQ
Common questions
Do I need to be home during installation?
Someone should be there at the start to confirm layout and at the end for the walkthrough.
Should I paint the ceiling and trim first?
Yes. Finish painting before the wallpaper goes up so the new paper does not get splattered.
Can I stay in the house?
Yes. Wallpaper installation is quiet compared with other renovation work; only the room being papered is off-limits.
