Home Office Wallpaper: Better Video Calls and a Room You Want to Work In
In a home office, wallpaper the wall behind your desk, the one that shows on video calls. Choose a medium-scale pattern or a texture: very small, tight patterns can shimmer on camera, while textures and soft botanicals look calm and professional. Durable non-woven or vinyl papers handle chairs and daily wear.
In short
- Paper the camera wall behind your desk.
- Medium-scale patterns and textures look best on video.
- Very fine stripes and tiny checks can flicker on camera.
- Choose washable or scuff-resistant materials near the desk chair.
Choosing the wall
Sit at your desk, open your camera and see what is behind you. That wall gets the most attention from you and everyone you meet online. If the desk faces a window, the wall you look at all day can be the accent instead.
Patterns that work on camera
| Works well | Use with care |
|---|---|
| Textures, grasscloth looks, linen weaves | Very fine stripes |
| Medium-scale botanicals | Tiny checks and houndstooth |
| Painterly murals | High-contrast black-and-white micro-prints |
| Soft geometrics | Metallic papers facing a window (glare) |
Fine, high-contrast patterns can cause a flicker effect on cameras, so test a sample on a call before ordering.
Materials for daily use
- Non-woven or vinyl near the desk, where chairs bump the wall.
- Textured and natural papers on walls that are seen but not touched.
- Avoid delicate silk behind a busy desk.

FAQ
Common questions
Does wallpaper reduce echo on video calls?
Textured and natural-fiber papers can soften a room slightly, but for real sound absorption you need acoustic panels.
Which color wallpaper looks best on video?
Mid-tones and soft colors usually look better than very bright white or very dark backgrounds.
Can I wallpaper a rented home office?
Ask your landlord first, or use peel-and-stick on a small wall.
